Challenge Description:

Ahhh, the 1970s. When the height of good entertaining was a Ritz cracker with cheese piped on top and jellied carrot salad!
Actions to take:

1. Pick a night. You are going to host a 70s dinner party.
2. Invite at least 3 other people. Tell them to come in costume. Think polyester, flares and the colour brown!
3. Ask your Mom or Grandmother or another woman over 50 for some menu ideas. Ritz crackers with things on top, jellied salad with vegetables inside, cheddar cheese and pineapple skewers, quiche, and fondue are all good starts.
4. Serve punch when your guests arrive.
5. Do some research into the best music mix, how to decorate your table with fruit made into centerpieces, and what sort of cream-filled desert would suit you best.
6. Film or photograph you and your guests for your challenge.
Minimum Requirements for Prizes:
1. We need a Movie of your groovy gathering with feedback from your guests. What did they think of the menu? Was it funky enough?!
2. Post at least two of your recipies complete with photos.

Genger´s  story

The Party was fun. It was my father in law's suit (genuine from 1977), and my cousin did some sewing of bell bottoms.  Everyone was great sports and we completed some more challenges that night, like my apple pie and dining in the dark. It was a lot of fun. I think more people should have Randomly challenged parties.

Recipe #1 Baked Ziti.

I looked on a number of websites and found this to be a 70's dish.

Cook up the sauce (I used more modern Turkey because it fit with my diet)

Cook up the noodles.

Combine them in a baking pan. Cover with Cheese and cook for 30- 45min  at 350 degrees.

Recipe #2 Special Brownies.

This one  was truly the 70's....

Special Flavoring optional.

1/2 cup butter
3 oz. unsweetened baking chocolate
1 oz. semi-sweet baking chocolate
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs
1 1/4 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt

Grease bottom of an 8 inch square baking pan.

Melt both chocolates with butter in a medium saucepan stirring over low heat until smooth (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat.

Stir in sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Mix in flour, salt, vanilla, rum and nuts, stirring only until mixture is smooth and ingredients are combined. Once flour has been added, do not overmix to prevent toughening.

Spread mixture into prepared pan.

Bake for 25 to 35 minutes or until brownies begin to shrink from sides of pan.

Allow to cool before cutting into squares.

Recipe #3 A number of websites mentioned "Nutty Dogs" as a great kids treat. This was hotdogs covered in peanut butter... We didn't make any of those but they sound... well... gross.
